It's Beginning to Look Like Boxing Day

Posted By Jane Aguila on

Years and years ago, Boxing Day was actually an “unboxing” day of the alms and donations that had been placed in churches the day before on Christmas Day. It was derived from a British tradition of charitable giving where employees, servants, tradespeople and the less unfortunate were also given the chance to celebrate the holidays by “unboxing” these gifts. While the name ‘Boxing Day’ has lost its origins to time, many believe it really just originates from charity drives that placed a smile on those who needed it the most.

Today, Boxing Day isn’t exactly what it was before. Of course, those who want to continue the tradition of charity giving the day after Christmas are still welcome to and really still highly encouraged. This is the season of giving after all.

However, Boxing Day in all its element today, is still well-celebrated in almost all of Australia (except South Australia where they instead celebrate a public holiday called Proclamation Day on the first weekday after Christmas Day) but since the 21st century, this public holiday has become more associated with shopping, sporting events and BBQ. Still a celebration, still a party, still a time to gather and be merry!

SHOPPING

When Boxing Day comes about, shopping is always connected to it. It’s almost impossible in Australia not to see stores and shops celebrating Boxing Day with sales and discounts everywhere. It still is very much the time to shop ‘til they drop!

Which is why, Ride Hub Australia, Home of Electrified Beasts (E-Rides) is also celebrating Boxing Day!

So what are you waiting for? If there’s a celebration to celebrate and a discount to claim, it’s on Boxing Day!

And hey, if you want to continue tradition, why not share the blessing and give a Mearth Electric Scooter gift to someone who needs it? Maybe a hard-working person you’ve been encountering so often lately? Or maybe someone you love that needs more loving? Or a school you feel so close to and want to donate a gift to them?

No matter what, gifts are blessings as long as it's from your heart!

SPORTS & BBQ

What else is a blessing? A feast! Eating and celebrating sports is another popular thing to do in Australia during Boxing Day.

Since Boxing Day is the day after Christmas Day, December 26, which is also St. Stephen's Day  (the patron saint of horses) — it has come to be a day of sporting events including horse races, foxhunting, and rugby. And in line with this, is the feasting of barbecue. This public holiday is not complete without BBQ!

So cheers, mate! Enjoy the holidays and celebrate Boxing Day with a grateful heart.
